Whenever you move to a new city, there is so much to do, from changing your address to getting a new license plate, plus establishing your new “spots,” like the grocery store, dentist, library and more. And amidst all of these changes, you’re also trying to establish yourself from a social perspective. Believe it or not, it can be difficult to meet friends as an adult, as we are usually not plugged into a natural community, like children are in school and other programs.

But have no fear! There are several ways to meet new friends in Fort Collins, with a number of resources and groups designed for this exact purpose. Plus, we’re sharing tips for some of the best locations in town for meeting like-minded individuals!

Go to a Brewery

When in doubt, a brewery is always a good place to meet new people. Go with your significant other, a friend, or by yourself, and you’ll be surprised at the conversations that can arise — especially if you sit at a communal picnic table or at the bar, where you’ll be in close proximity to other people. Just strike up a conversation with someone about which beer they chose, compliment their dog, or make a comment about the weather — as cheesy as it sounds, all of these icebreakers can lead to a more in-depth conversation!

Get a Dog

Dogs in Fort Collins, CO

Speaking of dogs, there is simply no better conversation-starter than a dog. Just take one for a walk around the block or to the dog park and you’ll strike up many conversations, mostly starting with questions like: “Is it a boy or girl?” “How old?” “What’s their name?” or “What type of dog is that?” Everyone loves talking about dogs — so bring your dog to the dog park or brewery to meet other dog lovers in the city. And if you don’t have a dog, you might consider adopting one from a local shelter! Check out our dog owner’s guide to Fort Collins and these dog-friendly breweries in the city.
