Situated just southeast of Fort Collins, the town of Timnath was founded in 1882 as a small agricultural community — and today, is home to nearly 10,000 residents. This growing town is an excellent place to call home, as it contains a plethora of new construction homes, some positioned to enjoy golf course views.

Whether you live in Timnath or you’re visiting from a neighboring community, there’s plenty to do, see, taste and experience here, from renowned golf courses to historic attractions — and of course, lots of green space and a well-loved brewery (we’re in Colorado, after all!). Here are just a few of our favorite things to do in Timnath!

Grab a Beer at Timnath Beerwerks

Taking after its neighbor to the north, Timnath is starting to foster its own craft beer culture — starting with Timnath Beerwerks, situated in the historic Colorado Feed & Grain Building (more on that later!). The relatively new brewery was voted the #1 brewery in NOCO Style in both 2020 and 2021 — and it’s easy to see why. Timnath Beerwerks beers are brewed first and foremost with quality in mind, made with a blend of art and science, with a healthy dose of experimentation. Most beers pay homage to German and American brewing techniques, with a bit of flair that sets them apart from other beers. Taste what’s on tap inside their spacious rustic-modern brewery or out on the deck or patio. Plus, there’s a rotating selection of food trucks parked on site to complement your drink of choice!

Go Fishing at Timnath Reservoir

If you live in Timnath, be sure to take advantage of Timnath Reservoir, a 580+ acre reservoir used for a variety of water activities, including boating, fishing, kayaking and swimming. If you have a Colorado fishing license, Timnath residents and their guests are permitted to access the area for fishing. The most common species caught in the reservoir include largemouth bass, common carp, and smallmouth bass. Boating is allowed for permit holders only — and there are many rules associated with boating at Timnath Reservoir (click here to see them all before you go!).

Originally built in 1920 in Old Town Timnath as a grain elevator, Colorado Feed & Grain is a landmark and cultural centerpiece of Northern Colorado. Throughout its century of life, CF&G has served various functions, but when the Colorado Feed & Grain Public Market opened in August 2018, it once again became the hub for local commerce in Timnath.

The CF&G Public Market is a little bit of everything: an artisan gift shop, a general store and grocery, a bakery, and a coffee house and eatery. In addition to offering goods, drinks, products and a private event venue, the building hosts gallery exhibitions, art classes, pop-up markets and a seasonal summer market.

Visit the Swetsville Zoo

Situated along the Poudre River in Timnath, the Swetsville Zoo is a whimsical, unique destination that has been attracting visitors for decades. In 1985, Bill Swets created his first zoo “animal”: a bird with a bicycle as the body and a shovel as the beak. And the rest is history! Today, the property contains about 180 metal sculptures all welded by Swets. Meander along the pathways to encounter dinosaurs, two-headed dragons, space creatures, and much more!

But hurry — the property was recently sold and will eventually be turned into a multi-use residential and retail development. However, you can still visit Swetsville Zoo until the sale is final in December 2022! The zoo does not charge admission but donations are appreciated.

Play a Round of Golf at Collindale or Southridge

Golfing in Timnath, CO

If you’re not a member at the private Harmony Club, there are still several golf courses you can tee off at near Timnath. Although technically situated in Fort Collins, both Collindale and Southridge Golf Courses are less than 15 minutes from Timnath — and even closer if you live on the west side of town. Collindale Golf Course is a championship-length, 18-hole course consistently recognized as having some of the best and fastest greens in Colorado. Situated on 160 scenic acres, the course hosts the local U.S. Open Qualifying and is a favorite for many amateur events and tournaments. Southridge Golf Course is an 18-hole course with beautiful views and challenging tee shots from multiple tee boxes, making it an excellent choice for golfers of all skill levels.

Hike Through Arapaho Bend Natural Area

Timnath is adjacent to Arapaho Bend Natural Area, which offers 4 miles of trail circling serene ponds. The area is home to more than 80 species of wildlife, including a variety of birds and mammals, such as rabbits, beavers, foxes and deer. The property also holds the ruins of the historic Strauss Cabin, which was one of the earliest log cabins built in the area. Although this natural area is right next to I-25 and the constant “hum” of traffic that it brings, you feel as though you’re completely immersed in nature!
