10 Unusual + Extreme Sports to Try in Fort Collins

Biking, hiking and swimming — you’ve done it all, and you can officially call yourself a Colorado resident! Once your outdoor adventure to-do list has been completely conquered, why not try your hand at one of the more unique and “extreme” sports? We’re talking bubble soccer, axe throwing, and...breaking things in a rage room (yes, that’s a real thing).

Think outside of the box by attempting one of these unusual and extreme sports in Fort Collins! They provide the perfect activity for a unique date night experience, a company event, or simply family weekend outing. No matter the occasion, everyone is sure to have a blast!

Take in the views and the thrills on the Cache La Poudre River, considered Colorado’s only designated “wild and scenic” river. Rocky Mountain Adventures offers beginner to advanced whitewater adventures, including half to full day trips. This family-friendly experience includes an experienced guide who will usher you and your group through Class II, III and IV waters. Book your rafting trip online 24/7!

Bubble Bump Soccer

When you merge bumper cars with soccer, you get “bubble soccer” — a unique and hilarious sport all its own. In a bubble soccer game, five players take on an opposing team in a traditional soccer game, but all 10 players are decked out in massive plastic bubble suits. The game starts with an initial “rush and bump” in the center of the field, and chaos ensues from that point forward. Bubble Bump Soccer is a locally owned bubble soccer manufacturing company offering rentals within 25 miles of Fort Collins — and further, with an additional fee.

Laser Tag at Chipper’s Lanes

With several locations throughout the region, including one on Horsetooth and North College, Chipper’s Lanes is a favorite amongst kids and kids at heart in Northern Colorado. In addition to bowling, Chipper’s Lanes offers arcade games, live music, a restaurant and laser tag (at the Horsetooth location). But Chipper’s laser tag is not your ordinary laser tag experience. Their new modern air-brushed arena called ChipTAR, a mysterious alien planet, is packed with color and plant life, plus the latest in laser tag technology.

The Axe & Ale

Axe throwing has taken the country by storm, providing a unique activity for a bachelor party, company party, or a fun date night. The Axe & Ale is a new venue with axe throwing stalls and an extensive beer selection — this is Fort Collins, after all. Plus, you’ll find other bar games, and eating and drinking spaces to hang out. The Axe & Ale is only taking reservations at this time, so click here to reserve your spot — if you dare!

Harboring some unaddressed frustration? It’s time to head to the break room — no, not the kind of “break room” you’re picturing. Shatter Rage Room provides the fun and satisfying experience of destroying breakable items with provided tools in a safe and enclosed environment. They offer a variety of items you can shatter, including dishware, decorations, lamps, vases, mirrors, small electronics, chairs, flat-screen TVs, and more. All you have to do is bring your rage! Shatter Rage Room has a unique take on traditional rage rooms by offering filmed sessions edited in slow motion for social media or personal entertainment. Book a temporary stay in your very own panic room today!

Archery at the Jax Archery Range

Channel your inner Katniss during a one-hour archery lesson at Jax Mercantile. The Fort Collins store offers an indoor archery range complete with a 20-yard range that can hold up to 12 archers at a time. No matter your skill level, Jax’s experienced instructors are there to teach you the ropes! For just $12/hour, you can rent equipment from Genesis Compound Bows and Re-Curve Bows or pay just $6/hour to use your own. May the odds be ever in your favor!

Nestled in the corner of Old Town’s Exchange, Old Town Putt offers visitors a unique, challenging way to spend an afternoon or night out. Not only do they feature nine indoor mini-golf holes to play, but they also have a full bar and outdoor patio to round out the fun! While they have plenty of fun for kids, they also set aside “adult-only” hours, so that you can enjoy the course and bar without the kiddos for a little while.

Access some of the most rugged terrain and hard-to-reach spots in all of Northern Colorado by hopping on an ATV. Don’t have your own? No sweat. Fort Collins Adventure Rentals offers the meanest four-wheelers on the market, which have been meticulously maintained so you don’t break down in the middle of nowhere. Plus, they provide a trailer, a cooler and helmets at no charge. Book your ride for the adventure of a lifetime!

Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park is packed with adventure — from the trampolines and climbing walls to the go-karts and bumper cars. Take your visit to new heights (quite literally!) by conquering the Urban Air ropes course. This above-ground experience tests your balance and agility, while increasing your confidence level. But don’t worry — you’ll be securely harnessed throughout the entire course!
