This summer is packed with exciting community events in Northern Colorado — which we are even more appreciative of after a year when many were cancelled or postponed. While this summer’s events span a wide range of topics and interests, there is an especially large number of arts-centric events to choose from!
Between Loveland’s renowned Sculpture in the Park event, Fort Collins’ Art in the Square, and other smaller artsy events on the calendar, there is no shortage of creativity to cultivate and art to admire this July and August!
Whether you are an art aficionado or an artist yourself, there’s an arts event in Northern Colorado for you.
Every Wednesday June 2–August 4, 2021 | Old Town Square
Every Wednesday from June 2 through August 4, the Downtown Development Authority invites you to pick up your project to be completed at home as part of Art for the Heart. Each packet contains that week’s specific art project, plus all the instructions and materials needed to complete it. No purchase is necessary — simply take the packet home and spend the week creating! Return your masterpiece the following Wednesday to be displayed in their Old Town kiosk. Each art project that is returned earns your child a punch on their “Frequent Creator” card, and prizes for frequent participation will be awarded on August 11! Pickup happens from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. next to the Old Town Square stage each Wednesday through August 4.
Vintage Market Days is an upscale vintage-inspired market in Longmont featuring original art, antiques, clothing, jewelry, handmade treasures, home decor, outdoor furnishings, treats, seasonal plantings and more! Essentially, it’s the best place to find exactly what your home, wardrobe and collections have been missing. And it’s a great place to get inspired to create art of your own! Admission for children under 12 years is free and the three-day pass is just $15 (and comes with a BOGO ticket for a friend!).
July 24–25, 2021 | Lincoln Park
Don’t miss the 42nd Annual Arts Picnic happening in the beautiful, historic Lincoln Park in downtown Greeley on July 24 and 25. Here, you’ll find more than 150 artists and crafters, plus 20,000 “picnickers” from all over the country, enjoying food booths, a beer garden, and live continuous entertainment on two stages. Vendors will be selling arts and crafts of all kinds, from bracelets to pottery and watercolor paintings to soap. In previous years, they have set up a Kids Creation Station, which will operate as a “take and create” station for 2021.
On the first Friday of each month from 6–9 p.m., head to downtown Fort Collins for First Friday Art Walk, a self-guided walking tour that celebrates creativity, culture and community. Here, you’ll find a variety of art styles, from the fine to the funky, which are sure to entertain and delight art lovers of all ages, interests and backgrounds. This event is free and open to the public!
August 6–8, 2021 | Benson Sculpture Garden
Loveland’s Sculpture in the Park is a NoCo favorite. Heralded as one of the finest outdoor juried exhibitions of three-dimensional artwork in the United States, the event showcases more than 2,000 pieces of sculpture created by 160 sculptors from around the world. This significant art event is sponsored by the Loveland High Plains Arts Council.
A Loveland tradition for more than 50 years, Art in the Park is the Thompson Valley Art League’s largest fundraiser. Held in conjunction with Sculpture in the Park, this two-day event brings even more fine art to town and fills North Lake Park with more than 200 local, regional and national artisans.
August 7–8, 2021 | Old Town Square
On August 7 and 8, Old Town will be packed with visual art and handcrafted items for sale, showcasing local talent and handcrafted goods with everything from photography to glasswork. Art in the Square will also host live music and family-friendly events, so bring the whole crew along!
Enjoy a night on the town at Loveland’s Night on the Town event, which takes place on the second Friday of each month. Downtown Loveland comes to life as local galleries offer specials and host art openings and featured events for the evening. Plus, this is an excellent opportunity to grab a bite to eat from a local restaurant, a drink from a brewery or bar, or a new outfit from a boutique! Night on the Town is all about supporting the many small businesses in our midst, whether or not it’s an art gallery.
August 14, 2021 | Central Park
Every Saturday between April 3 and November 20, the Saturday Boulder Farmers’ Market fills up 13th Street between Canyon and Arapahoe. And on the second Saturday of each month, the market gets an artistic twist, as a special Artisan Show accompanies this weekly market. You’ll find a variety of artisans, artists and crafters selling a wide range of arts and crafts from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plus, there will be live music, kids’ art activities, and lots of food and drinks!
