Autumn is upon us! While the season is in full swing out on the farm and in our grocery store aisles, it isn’t truly fall until our mantels, dining room tables and front porches are outfitted with pumpkins, hay bales, corn husks and all things fall.
To help you deck out your home for the season, we’re sharing some ideas for decorating your home for fall, including both local businesses and online resources. From DIY ideas to must-haves for your shopping list, these tips are sure to bring your space to life this fall!
There’s nothing more fall than a pile of pumpkins and other fall decor, like corn husks, grasses, gourds and squash. And there’s no better source for all of the above than a pumpkin patch! Head to the patch nearest you using our guide to pumpkin patches in Northern Colorado, which includes options from Platteville all the way up to Wellington. Plus, while you’re picking the perfect pumpkins, you can enjoy all the festivities these fall destinations have to offer!
Next, arrange your pumpkins and other natural fall decor on your porch or around your fireplace — or really, wherever you need a little touch of bright orange fall beauty.
While our favorite national hardware chains and big-box stores are well-stocked with fall decor, we are passionate about supporting the many local businesses in our midst. And thankfully, there are plenty of local home decor stores throughout Northern Colorado, most of which offer seasonal decor options aplenty. Sense of Place in Fort Collins is constantly adding more fall decor inventory every day as the season progresses. And Cozy Cottage has plenty of seasonal fall decor to choose from!

If you enjoy the DIY process but want a little direction, book a workshop at Board and Brush in Fort Collins! Sip on a glass of wine or beer while you follow instructions to create your very own wood sign. They provide all the instruction, materials and design for you to distress, sand, stain, paint and customize your personalized piece of art to hang at home! A lot of their upcoming workshops feature fun fall-themed designs, from pumpkins to apples and everything in between.
If you’re feeling thrifty and adventurous, visit one of the many vintage and antique stores in Fort Collins to search for some fall decor or something you can fall-ify with a can of paint and some creativity. Many of our favorite shops are situated along College Avenue, so you could spend an entire day hopping from one to another. Not to mention, second-hand shopping is one of the best ways to reduce waste!
Don’t neglect your backyard this fall! If you are in need of a cozy fire pit for s’more roasting, beer drinking and other fall activities, consider building your own. We compiled a few of our favorite DIY ideas, ranging in style and difficulty, from the simple and traditional to the modern and advanced. Prep for the colder weather ahead by creating your very own cozy outdoor living room fireplace.
Fall is all about coziness, comfort and being together — often around the dining table, where we enjoy seasonal pumpkin-filled recipes. To ensure your dining space is festive and flattering, we put together a few ideas for decorating your table for the season — with a few DIY projects thrown in. So before you start cooking, get decorating! There’s a mix of ideas to suit every style and budget.
One of the best ways to add a fall touch to your living spaces is incorporating some warm fall hues and cozy textures, often in the form of throw pillows and blankets. At Home sells a wide variety of fall throw pillows, which you can purchase online or at their store in Greeley. Plus, they have several cozy throw blankets to choose from, including this plush fringe throw in rust and this knitted mustard throw.
No matter the time of year, we’re swooning over the beautiful creations from the paintbrush of Kelli Kroneberger, a talented artist living in Fort Collins with her husband and two boys. Her work is simple and refreshing, incorporating neutral colors derived from nature. Some feature quintessential fall hues, and all will look exceptional on your walls all year long. You can even book a commission for a completely personalized piece for your space!

Now that your home looks like fall, it’s time to make it smell like the season, too! Makerfolk in Old Town Fort Collins has you covered in the candle department. They sell candles made by Beldamia, including a fall-ish scent called Wood Smoke. “Reminiscent of a late summer bonfire or a cozy cabin fireplace, this candle combines the fragrance of firewood, vanilla bean, berries and forest.” What a dream!
Give guests and neighbors a peek into your fall decor by placing a fall wreath on your front door! If you’re feeling crafty, opt to make your own DIY wreath this year. Country Living put together a long list of DIY fall wreath ideas, made with everything from pine cones and corn husks to leaves and flowers. No matter your color palette and style, there’s a project for you on this list.
We hope your home is a cozy and inviting place to be this fall — and beyond!
