We can hardly believe it but Labor Day is just around the corner! If you’re not planning on hiking, camping or hanging out by the lake all weekend, you may be looking for events in the area that require slightly less prep and planning. Luckily for you, there is never a shortage of events in Northern Colorado, and a holiday weekend is no exception!
To mark the unofficial end of summer, we’ve listed several options for the long weekend in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado. In fact, we have an event (or two) for every single day.
Start the weekend off strong on Friday with the Rocky Mountain Showdown in Denver. This is the annual season opener for the Colorado State Rams football team against the University of Colorado. Support your local team in person or throw a watch party at home!
From 6-9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month, fine art and folk art galleries in downtown Fort Collins open their doors for the First Friday Gallery Walk. Bas Bleu Theater, The Center for Fine Art Photography, Coco Artist Studio, Fort Collins Museum of Art and 12 other local businesses will be participating in this month’s event. Come on down to Old Town on Friday and celebrate art and Fort Collins.
Thunder in the Rockies in Loveland will be going all weekend, Friday, September 2 – Monday, September 5. Thunder Mountain Harley-Davidson will be packed with over 100 food, drink and merchandise vendors. Entertainment will include local and national bands, Harley-Davidson’s demo fleet, Miss Thunder in the Rockies Contest and much more. The vendors and general admittance are free, but special events require tickets. Get more ticket and event information on their website.
Saturday, September 3, Tour de Fat – hosted by New Belgium Brewery – returns to its original Fort Collins home in celebration of all things biking and beer. Entertainment includes a 1,000 Person Dance Contest, a Slow Ride competition, and the inspirational car-for-bike swapper series in which brave souls hand over their car keys and commit to commute by bike. This is a can’t-miss Fort Collins event, so find your wackiest costume, register here, and show up at Civic Center Park on Saturday!
Fortified Collaborations is putting together a dinner at Grant Farms in Fort Collins to celebrate 100 years of Mishawaka, the historic music venue in Bellvue. Ticket sales and proceeds go to The Kitchen Community in Boulder which benefits children and communities through outdoor and food education. Tickets will become available closer to Sunday, September 4th. Save the date and check back on their website or their Facebook for ticket details.
Every Sunday Fort Collins Brewery hosts Brewery Yoga for a Cause benefiting FoCo Cafe. There are two sessions – one at 9 a.m. and one at 10:30 a.m., and guests are asked to bring their own mat and water. Reservations can be made online here. Each session has a 15 person cap so reserve your spot for Labor Day weekend early! The best part? Brunch and Bloody Mary’s are available afterward!
In celebration of the *unofficial* last day of our Colorado summer, City Park is hosting their annual dog-friendly event, the Pooch Plunge. At 4:30 p.m. on Labor Day, City Park Pool is open for dogs to take a dip. Tickets are available now at Mulberry Pool and EPIC. Tickets are less expensive prior to the day of, but will be available for $10 at the pool on Labor Day.
Outside of these local events, outdoor recreation is always a wonderful option for Labor Day, especially since it’s usually one of our last beautiful summer weekends. We have so many recreational activities nearby. In fact, we have guides for camping in Northern Colorado, hikes and bike trails in Fort Collins, as well as nearby lakes. While you’re not celebrating our awesome community at these events, spend time outside!
Share your Labor Day plans with us and let us know if you attend any of these local events!
