Once called Bergdorff Siding, this town eventually took its name from Alexander Ault—a flour mill owner and grain merchant who rescued the local agricultural economy in 1897 when he agreed to buy the entire local wheat harvest. Ault's name also provides a fitting acronym for "A Unique Little Town." Located at 4,938 feet above sea level along US Highway 85, Ault residents enjoy an ideal vantage point to view the Front Range of the Rockies to the west. It also sits near the edge of the vast shortgrass prairie lands of eastern Colorado. Notably, Highland High School in Ault is named for the town's position on the high plains. The town celebrates two annual community events, including the Fall Festival in August and the International Food Fest in October, which features the ethnic roots of the local residents. About 30% of the residents have German ancestors, 11% are Irish with English, Swedish and Norwegian immigrants also contributing to the fabric of the community.
