Our Northern Colorado region has grown from a small agriculture community to one of thriving small businesses, local farms and eateries, higher education and so much more. But through the decades, we’ve never forgotten our aggie roots.

To ease your itching green thumb and get your spring garden and home landscape started, we rounded up the centers, nurseries and greenhouses offering the products and expertise needed for a blooming Colorado home. This Loveland center sells, educates and assists with all things gardening — from food crops and pest control to flowers and decor. During the holiday season, you can buy fresh-cut garland, wreaths and stems, Poinsettia and other festive florals. You can even trim your very own fresh-cut tree!

 

Pope Farms Produce and Garden Center | Greeley

This mom and pop-style garden center buys locally, sells locally and is owned locally! The complete garden center includes garden decor, roses, plants, shrubs, seeds, bulbs, potting soil and composts. Unique to Pope Farms, they also offer a full selection of locally grown produce — including Western Slope fruit and Rocky Ford melons — alongside specialty items like Colorado’s Best Beef, Colorado Cherry Company ciders and juice, Village Pie Maker frozen fruit pies, Clarks local honey and their own frozen green chili!

 

Fossil Creek Nursery | Fort Collins

Originally opened in 1965 with just 1 acre, this local landscape and garden center is now located on 15 acres of hillside overlooking Benson Reservoir. Locally owned and operated by Jack and Christine Fetig, the team behind Alpine Gardens Landscaping, the greenhouses, education and products are managed by experts with attainable landscaping in mind. Preview all their offerings here — from trees and annuals to bird baths and fertilizers.

 

Creekside Garden Center | Fort Collins

This Colorado forest-inspired greenhouse and garden center is driven by simplicity and a low-key approach. The greenhouse was built single-handedly by co-owner Tom Haynie. It now showcases hundreds of spring flower baskets, thousands of annuals and vegetable starts, and all types of garden supplies, tools and soil amendments. You can find just about anything at Creekside, from ornamental to fruit trees, perennials and annuals, and vegetables and seeds. What’s more, the on-site art gallery has pottery and art to explore before you leave!

Though Fort Collins’ favorite garden destination is primarily a sustainable educational center, you can also buy several plants through the gardens’ greenhouse. When you make a purchase here, your money goes back into the programs, workshops and special events that serve our community. With seasonally available community gardens located on the 18-acre site, you can also rent space to start your own food and plant garden!

One half of the father-son team retired from the floriculture section in the Horticulture Department at CSU so even his experience in Colorado plants is local! Colorado State Forest Service Nursery | Fort Collins

The CSFS Nursery is situated on approximately 130 acres and includes 18,000 square feet of greenhouse space. Driven by the Colorado State Forest Service mission to achieve stewardship of Colorado’s diverse forest environments, they offer seedling trees at low cost so you can directly benefit our state and CSU students. They offer more than 50 native species of bare root and container seedlings, nearly all of which are grown from seeds!
